Press Release
Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collection for February 2023 stood at ₹1,49,577 crore, registering a year-on-year growth of 12 percent compared to the same month last year and marking the twelfth consecutive month in which monthly GST collections crossed the ₹1.4 lakh crore mark. The February performance was driven by robust economic activity, with revenues from domestic transactions, including import of services, rising by 15 percent, while GST collections from import of goods increased by 6 percent year-on-year. The monthly collections comprised ₹27,662 crore as CGST, ₹34,915 crore as SGST, ₹75,069 crore as IGST (including ₹35,689 crore from imports), and ₹11,931 crore as compensation cess, which was the highest cess collection recorded since the introduction of GST. During the month, the Centre settled ₹34,770 crore to CGST and ₹29,054 crore to SGST from IGST collections, ensuring steady revenue flow to States. In addition, pending GST compensation amounts for earlier periods were also released to States and Union Territories. Despite February being a shorter month, the strong revenue performance underscores improved compliance, sustained consumption, and the resilience of the GST system amid continued economic recovery.
