Revision in E-Way Bill and Consolidated E-Way Bill Numbering Formats w.e.f. 1 January 2027
GSTN has announced revisions in the numbering formats of E-Way Bills and Consolidated E-Way Bills due to the expected exhaustion of the existing numbering capacity arising from the substantial volume of E-Way Bills generated. With effect from 1 January 2027, the E-Way Bill Number will be increased from the existing 12 digits to 14 digits, while the Consolidated E-Way Bill Number will be increased from 10 digits to 11 digits. All stakeholders, including taxpayers, GST Suvidha Providers (GSPs), ERP/software providers and API integrators, are advised to make necessary modifications to their applications, APIs, database schemas and validation rules to accommodate the revised numbering formats. The changes will be released in the Sandbox environment shortly for testing, with relevant details to be published on the E-Way Bill Portal. Stakeholders are required to ensure system readiness well before 1 January 2027 to facilitate a seamless transition and avoid disruption to E-Way Bill-related operations.
