Press Release
Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collection for January 2024 stood at ₹1,72,129 crore, registering a year-on-year growth of 10.4 percent compared to January 2023 and marking the second-highest monthly collection since the introduction of GST. This was also the third instance in FY 2023–24 where monthly collections crossed the ₹1.70 lakh crore mark, reflecting sustained economic activity and steady tax compliance. During the month, the Central Government settled ₹43,552 crore to CGST and ₹37,257 crore to SGST from the IGST collected, ensuring timely revenue flow to both the Centre and States. Cumulatively, during the April 2023 to January 2024 period, gross GST collections reached ₹16.69 lakh crore, recording a strong year-on-year growth of 11.6 percent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year. The revenue trends indicate consistent momentum in GST collections throughout the year, underlining the resilience of the tax system and the continued recovery of the Indian economy, with final figures for January expected to be even higher.
